The out-of-state process differs in that you don’t need to appear in Michigan for a hearing.
Rather, the Secretary of State (SoS) will review your documents and either grant or deny your request to clear the Michigan hold on your driver’s license.
If your request is granted, then you’re free to pursue a driver license in the state where you currently live.
If your request is denied, you’re entitled to pursue a Hearing.
You’ll only have to appear in person (or by Zoom) at your local SOS branch office; the hearing officer will conduct the hearing by video conferencing from his home office in Michigan.
Just like a regular in-person hearing, you’re entitled to have an attorney at the video hearing.
Once the hearing is concluded, a formal written order either granting or denying your request will be mailed to your home address.
We really do want to help you.
In fact, we’ll pull your driving record and provide you with a free consultation with one of our attorneys.
But the sooner we discuss your situation, the sooner we can get you back on the road.

As always, your written evidence is critical to your success.
It’s crucial to have an experienced attorney help prepare all of your documents and refer you to an experienced counselor to prepare you for your Substance Abuse Evaluation.
The Secretary of State’s requirements are very particular, and all of your documents must comply with their strict standards.
People often hire an attorney only after trying the Administrative Review on their own.
Not only does this delay the time to obtain the license restoration and clearance, but it also hinders the likelihood of success since everything submitted is then inserted in a permanent Secretary of State file.
You’ll need to request an Administrative Review of your driver’s license.
Then you must submit a Petitioner’s Evidence Affidavit, Substance Use Evaluation, 12-panel drug test and letters of support.
Additionally, you must also submit proof of your current residency if you’re to win an out of state driver’s license restoration case.
How Long Will It Take?
The process can take anywhere between 10 to 12 weeks.
