The Detroit district court is the busiest in the state. There are 20 judges. Officers frequently do not show up for court, except for drunk driving cases. Other common offenses include solicitation (offer to engage in prostitution), illegal occupation at unauthorized bar (blind pig), Despite having the reputation for being chaotic and unorganized, I believe the criminal division of the court operates rather efficiently considering the size of its docket. Litigation in this court definitely takes longer than usual. Several of the judges I went to law school with and I consider friends. If I need a writ to get someone out of jail, they are who I go to. If you know what you are doing, this court is easy to work in. I know what I am doing in the 36th district such that I get great results there for my clients.
